Belle journée begins with a simple gesture: a change of instrument and a step toward something quieter. Known for the raw poetry of slide guitar and open tunings, Gary O’Slide turns here to the classical guitar, drawn by the softness of nylon strings and the intimacy they offer. The change creates a gentler sound, where touch, space and silence become part of the music. The blues is still present, but it appears more as memory than declaration. Folk elements emerge through simple melodies, unhurried pacing and a close, natural guitar sound. Across eight instrumental pieces, the album moves through quiet observation, reflection and small moments of discovery. From the openness of Prendre le temps to the inward character of Réflexion, each piece feels like a passing thought allowed to remain for a little longer. Recorded entirely on classical guitar, Belle journée is not a departure from Gary O’Slide’s musical world. It is the same landscape seen in a softer light.
