From the heart of Kolkata, Neil Mukherjee carries within him a world of music.
A gifted guitarist, composer, and explorer of sound, he weaves stories with strings that echo both tradition and innovation. His fingers move not only across frets but across cultures, from the fiery pulse of flamenco to the intricate depth of Indian classical music, from Western harmony to the silence between notes.
Gifted a guitar at the age of eleven by his grandmother during Durga Puja, Neil began a lifelong dialogue with the instrument. A dialogue that would lead him through the halls of Trinity College London, into the heart of flamenco, and across countless stages and studios. A Grade 8 Western classical guitarist and theorist, Neil does not simply play music. He builds bridges through it.
His custom 8-string guitar, uniquely designed with two extra high strings, expands his sonic vocabulary. With it, he doesn’t just push the limits of technique. He invents new languages of expression.
Whether fingerpicking delicate meditations or letting rhythms burst into fiery cascades, Neil's sound is unmistakably his own. Fluid, fearless, and full of soul.
His collaborations speak of trust and talent. A.R. Rahman, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Yuvan Shankar Raja, Vidyasagar and many more have called on Neil’s gift. And yet, it is in his solo compositions that his voice is most intimate.
Albums like “Parchaiyyan” shimmer with emotion, carrying shadows and light in equal measure. A dance of memory, silence, and sound.
Neil Mukherjee is not confined to genres. He is a seeker. Forever learning, listening, and shaping music that breathes across continents.
A quiet force in the vast landscape of Indian and global music, his path is not just one of mastery. It is a path of constant reinvention.
In his hands, the guitar becomes not just an instrument... but a living storyteller.
