Waiting With Light begins with the stars and follows the view beyond them. Russ McRee describes the piece through distance, space and the vastness of the galaxy. Guitar, bass and drums are joined by synthesiser, widening the atmosphere around the melody and giving the music a sense of depth. The title comes from an image in Wendell Berry’s The Peace of Wild Things, continuing the connection between McRee’s music and the poem’s natural imagery. Where Above Me Stars found movement and brightness in a wilderness sky, Waiting With Light looks further into the distance. It is the fifth piece from The Peace of Wild Things, carrying a calm and slightly wistful character into the wider space of the night.
