From the recordings Perda e Bentu and Maestrale
Maestrale arrives like a gust over bare stone. A song born from the powerful wind of northern Sardinia, it does not settle gently but insists, stirs, reshapes. Composer Fabrizio Leoni takes the traditional Passu Turratu and rebuilds it, melodically, harmonically, rhythmically, into something fiercely alive.
This piece moves with the spirit of the wind itself. It swirls through flute, saxophones, clarinets, trumpet, and piano, carried by the strength of the daf and the grounding pulse of double bass and drums. Between the tones, you can almost hear rocks shifting and trees bending. It’s not chaos, but wild balance.
The voice of Alessandra Soro does not dominate, it rises like an echo within the storm. Maestrale is not just a tribute to the landscape, it is the landscape. Music that doesn’t recall, but becomes the wind that shaped the coasts and carved memory into rhythm.
