Gravity and Inertia explores a more physical side of James Filkins' guitar playing. Deep notes, percussive strums and brighter upper-register phrases give the piece a sense of changing weight and momentum. Its title came from Filkins' observation that some days seem to carry extra gravity while others have a natural bounce. That idea is reflected directly in the guitar, which alternates between grounded rhythmic gestures and passages that feel more mobile and light, using contrast as part of the composition rather than adding it through a larger arrangement.
