With Cardinal Serenade, James Filkins translates this moment of seasonal awakening into music. The piece unfolds as a gentle conversation between acoustic guitar and harp, an intimate duet that reflects the quiet beauty of early spring mornings.

Filkins has often drawn inspiration from the landscapes surrounding Traverse City and the forests and lakes of Northern Michigan. Rooted in the language of acoustic fingerstyle guitar, a tradition that has been cultivated by musicians such as Leo Kottke and Michael Hedges, the guitar provides a warm and steady melodic foundation.
