Release Info:

Gnossiennes, For Me, For Satie is Carlo Corazza’s intimate return to a music that once lived only in solitude. These six interpretations of Erik Satie’s Gnossiennes are more than recordings. They are the closing of a long silent chapter, a story shaped by being discouraged as a student from approaching this repertoire, only to keep it alive privately for decades.

Now, Corazza brings these pieces into the light with emotional honesty and a quiet sense of resolution. Performed on acoustic felted piano, the album carries a soft and introspective quality. Each note arrives with warmth, each phrase unfolds with space, and every silence becomes meaningful. The felted texture creates a closeness that feels almost physical, as if the music were being played just a few steps away.

There is restraint throughout, but never distance. Corazza listens deeply to Satie’s language and responds with a maturity shaped by time, reflection, and the quiet persistence of love for this music. The result is not a classical showcase. It is an act of artistic liberation and sincerity.

These performances are ideal for mindful listening, quiet evenings, emotional processing, or gentle presence. They invite stillness without demanding it, offering a rare kind of warmth and vulnerability.

Gnossiennes, For Me, For Satie is a personal offering, shaped by memory, tenderness, and the courage to reclaim what once had to remain hidden.

Track by Track

1. Gnossienne No 1 – Lent

The cycle opens with stillness. Gnossienne No 1 feels like a mirror held up to the soul. Every note hovers softly, shaped with delicacy and space. The felted piano deepens the intimacy, making the piece ideal for reflection. This is where Corazza’s silence ends and his voice begins, closing the project with tenderness and quiet strength.

2. Gnossienne No 2 – Avec étonnement

A question whispered into silence. This piece arrives with gentle wonder, carrying a sense of curiosity rather than surprise. Corazza plays with restraint, letting the felted piano glow softly. The effect is subtle but lasting, like a small shift in the air or a hidden smile remembered later.

3. Gnossienne No 3 – Lent

A dream half remembered. The music moves with quiet uncertainty, suspended between thought and emotion. Corazza allows the piece to unfold slowly, letting silence shape its contours. Nothing is rushed. Everything breathes. A tender conversation with memory and time.

4. Gnossienne No 4 – Lent

The hush after a long thought. This piece carries a soft melancholy that feels like dawn mist. Corazza treats every gesture with care, shaping a diary of unfinished sentences and intimate pauses. The music lingers more than it speaks, revealing the quiet defiance of rediscovered love.

5. Gnossienne No 5 – Modéré

A breath held between memories. Moderation becomes gentleness rather than restraint. Corazza’s interpretation highlights the fragility of each phrase, giving space to silences and soft textures. The piece walks lightly, its tenderness balancing sorrow and peace.

6. Gnossienne No 6 – Avec conviction et avec une tristesse rigoureuse

The first step into Satie’s world and the beginning of Corazza’s emotional return. With conviction shaped by honesty, the piece holds a quiet gravity. Notes fall like thoughts long held and finally released. The felted piano adds warmth to the sorrow, turning the music into presence rather than pain.

“Gnossiennes – For Me, For Satie” is one of them.

For many years, Carlo Corazza kept his love for Satie’s music hidden. As a young pianist, he was told that these pieces were not “real” music. And like many students shaped by their teachers, he listened. He stopped playing Satie in public. But not at home. There, in private moments, the music never left.

Now, at 47, Carlo releases this quiet, long-held affection into the world. Each of the six Gnossiennes is played on an acoustic felted piano, with softness and sincerity. These are not grand performances, they are intimate, honest reflections. Each note is a gesture of freedom. Each pause, a space to breathe.

This album is not just about music. It is about reclaiming a part of oneself that was once silenced. It is about the way certain melodies stay with us, even when we try to set them aside. It is about art healing what fear once muted.

Even the cover tells a story. Drawn by Carlo decades ago, the portrait of Satie was never finished, until now. The music gave him permission to complete what he once abandoned.
The music has liberated the man
