Il Folletto is a meditation on inspiration itself, shaped by lightness, curiosity, and the quiet unpredictability of the creative act. Fabio Mazzini and Friedrich compose a dialogue between Fender Rhodes and lap steel guitar, two voices that move like wandering spirits. One sparkles with questions, the other replies with soft, fluid harmonies, forming a sound space where ideas seem to walk just ahead of the listener.

The piece is inspired by L’idea che ti cammina davanti, the image of the idea that walks before you, inviting pursuit but never allowing full capture. The music embodies this feeling through a blend of folk inspired phrasing and subtle jazz harmony. Mazzini’s melodic lines carry a warm, almost storytelling intimacy, while Friedrich’s harmonic colors drift like shifting light, shaping an atmosphere that feels both improvised and deeply intentional.

Echoes of Erik Satie’s playful restraint and Bill Evans’ harmonic sensitivity appear as gentle traces, connecting poetic and jazz traditions without imitating either. The result is a piece that breathes, wanders, and listens to itself.
